All students will complete a biography (as opposed to an autobiograpy) about a relative, neighbour or friend. This is an extended piece of work for which 4-5 weeks will be allowed. It should be organised in chapters or sections and written in an appropriate style. The work may be word-processed or handwritten. Images (with captions) may be included.

Shorter tasks might be set, particularly at the beginning and end of the unit. Note that autobiographical writing skills will be tested in class.

Yr 10 Media Studies

All students will study Of Mice and Men during the first half-term of the course. This is a set examination text to which we will return for revision purposes in the final stages of the course. The unit will end with a formal assessment, using an actual, previous examination paper.

Most homeworks will be related to this text (tasks on plot, characterisation, themes, etc) but there might also be other tasks which focus, for example, on writing skills. Tasks will be differentiated according to the ability of the set concerned.

At all times, students are encouraged to read for their own interest and enjoyment. A regular reading habit is invaluable in the development of language skills. Texts which offer a challenge appropriate to the student's current reading abilities are most likely to be beneficial. They should be neither too simple nor too difficult.
